Cairo, founded in the 10th century, was one of the most important Islamic cities for much of its history. Cairo is known as the “City of 1000 Minarets,” due to their high concentration—the most of any city in the world.  I wanted to create a series of miniatures modeled after important Cairene minarets. I created each one in interlocking modules that one could take apart and combine in new ways to create new structures.
